Did I ever tell you about the time Tabs caught a bird…on his leash!? perhaps I have, however I don’t believe I told you all the sordid details. You see, we were just wrapping up our morning walk. It was a great day. The sun was out. It was remove as well as warm. Tabs was feeling friskier as well as much more lively than usual. He even climbed one of the oak trees about 10 feet up before plopping back down.

As we were walking back to the front door, Tabs was leading me like typical on his leash up until all of a sudden I saw was a flash of motion in front of me. I look over to my right, as well as there’s Tabs about 10 feet away with something fluttering IN HIS MOUTH!

By the time it registers with me that it’s a bird in his mouth, as well as I state “Tabs, no! Stop!” as well as rush over to him, it’s as well late. He darts behind me with it still in his mouth, trying to keep it away from me, however the wings are no longer flapping. It’s just hanging there limply. I believe it was a infant sparrow since it was that time of year when we discover a great deal of nests as well as hear the infant birds chirping.

I pull the slack from his leash, as well as Tabs reluctantly sets the little bird down on the concrete. He looks practically as freaked out as I do, like he couldn’t believed what just occurred either, like “Whoa! I can’t believe I just caught a bird! Did you see that? Wow, I did not expect that to occur today!”

Of course, the bird was no longer with us, however at least it satisfied its end quickly.

There were other times, too, when Tabs practically caught birds on his leash. One time he leaped so high, the leash pulled directly out of my hand, as well as he swiped a bird so forcefully that he knocked it out of the sky. Thankfully, it bounced a few times like somebody skipping a rock as well as made it back into the air as well as got away.

We always joked that Tabs was a natural born birder — a veritable ninja tabby. Rodents were certainly not his forte… remind me to tell you about the time we had a rat in the kitchen area (!), as well as Tabs wouldn’t get anywhere near it, however he would chirp as well as chatter at birds for hours as well as hours at the window.

Perhaps appropriately, a few of his preferred kitty modeling ad campaigns were bird themed…
